Prevention

Prevention, Optimization & Recovery

Cardiovascular care is not only about preventing disease. It is also about supporting patients who are already living with established conditions. Patients may seek care for:

  • Cardiovascular risk assessment and prevention
  • High cholesterol or abnormal lipid patterns
  • High blood pressure
  • Insulin resistance or metabolic syndrome
  • Fatigue or reduced exercise tolerance
  • Recovery and optimization after cardiac events

Support After Cardiac Events

This includes patients who have experienced:

  • Heart attack (MI)
  • Angioplasty or stent placement
  • Heart failure or reduced cardiac function
  • Long-standing metabolic or vascular disease

Care is designed to complement specialist involvement and support long-term outcomes.

Background

Clinical Background & Experience

Phil brings over 15 years of clinical experience across primary care, emergency, and advanced cardiology.

His work in a Heart Failure Disease Management Program involved caring for patients with complex, multi-system disease, including advanced heart failure, post-cardiac event recovery, and high-risk cardiovascular conditions.

This background informs a structured, medically grounded approach to cardiovascular care, with comfort managing complexity while maintaining a focus on prevention and long-term health.

Risk factors

Understanding Cardiovascular Risk

Heart disease rarely develops from a single issue. It is typically driven by interacting systems over time. Key contributors may include:

  • Cholesterol and lipid patterns
  • Blood pressure
  • Blood sugar and insulin resistance
  • Inflammation and endothelial function
  • Body composition and visceral fat
  • Sleep, stress, and lifestyle patterns

Many of these changes can be present years before symptoms develop.

What is involved

A Comprehensive Medical Approach

Phil Beauchamp, NP provides individualized cardiovascular and metabolic care that may include:

Assessment & Evaluation

  • Detailed medical history and cardiovascular risk assessment
  • Review of prior cardiac events and specialist reports
  • Functional and lifestyle assessment

Laboratory & Diagnostic Review

  • Standard lipid panels and metabolic markers
  • Advanced cardiovascular risk markers when appropriate
  • Blood sugar, insulin, and metabolic profiling
  • Review of imaging or cardiology investigations when available

Treatment & Risk Reduction

  • Lifestyle and nutrition strategies
  • Blood pressure and metabolic optimization
  • Cholesterol management using medical and lifestyle approaches
  • Support for post-cardiac event recovery and secondary prevention
  • Functional and integrative therapies in collaboration with the Naturopathic Doctors
  • IV and targeted therapies when clinically appropriate

Beyond screening

Looking Beyond Standard Screening

Traditional screening tools are helpful, but they may not always capture the full picture of cardiovascular risk.

A deeper evaluation of metabolic and vascular markers may reveal early patterns or residual risk in some patients, including patients already on treatment.

This may allow for a more proactive and individualized approach to care.

Integrated care

An Integrated Model of Care

Care at Pure Wellness Group combines conventional medical management with integrative and functional strategies. As a Nurse Practitioner, Phil provides:

  • Medical assessment, prescribing, and monitoring
  • Coordination with cardiology and other specialists when needed
  • Integration of naturopathic and functional therapies

This model allows patients to access a broader range of treatment options while maintaining a clear and medically guided plan.

Focus

Our Approach to Cardiovascular Health

This approach focuses on:

  • Early identification of risk
  • Structured secondary prevention
  • Metabolic optimization
  • Long-term health and resilience

Follow-up

Ongoing Monitoring & Follow-Up

Cardiovascular and metabolic health require ongoing care. Patients are supported with:

  • Regular follow-up and lab monitoring
  • Adjustment of treatment strategies
  • Long-term tracking of risk markers
  • Continued focus on sustainable lifestyle changes

The goal is not only to help prevent disease progression, but to support energy, function, and quality of life.
